Darius Campbell

Biography

Darius Campbell is a critically acclaimed West End actor and platinum-selling singer-songwriter, born in Glasgow Scotland in 1980.

2010 has started in scintillating fashion for him as the winner of ITV1’s Popstar to Operastar, the series in which best-selling recording artists from the world of pop discovered (or not !!) if they could perform as opera divas.

Having been mentored by classical hit-singer Katherine Jenkins and famed tenor Rolando Villazon, Darius proved he could perform week after week, learning a supremely difficult skill and wowing the nation with his amazing vocal abilities and passion-filled performances.

In 2008 he starred in Trevor Nunn’s West End production of Gone With The Wind, in the leading role originally played by Clark Gable, and although the show was criticised for being too long, he won rave reviews for his performance.

He gave up a promising Operatic career to study English Literature at Edinburgh University. After two successful TV shows and turning down Simon Cowell’s offer of a million pound record deal, he signed with Grammy Award-winning U2 producer Steve Lillywhite, exceeding Pop Idol expectations when his self-penned single Colourblind entered the UK chart at Number 1 and his debut album went Platinum.

He has had five UK Top Ten singles; a second Gold album; wrote a no. 6 Sunday Times Best Seller book Sink or Swim; he supported Shakira on her world tour and is an Ambassador for the Princes Trust.
