Lauren Socha

Biography

LAUREN Socha is the first to admit that her Midlands accent is ‘common’.

She wasn’t even put out when Jonathan Ross expressed his surprise that the Misfits actress really spoke like that.

When she went on his chat show with her castmates, he told her he assumed she put on the ‘chav’ accent for the role of Kelly.

But, although she doesn’t want to forget her roots, she admits she is now taking lessons in a bid to broaden her range.

“No-one understands my accent,” says Lauren, who still lives with her mum Kath in Derby.

“I’m constantly going to auditions and being told they don’t like how I talk.

“You have to live with criticism and I don’t take it personally.

But I’m going to a voice coach now to learn how to speak proper!

“I want to be a bit more versatile. I’d love to be in a period drama, though my dream role is to be in a film with Ray Winstone and Tom Hardy.

“I don’t think I’ll ever lose my accent though.”

Misfits is TV’s surprise hit, beating the likes of Spooks to Best Drama Series as this year’s BAFTAs. Currently screened on E4, it’s described as Skins meets Heroes.
Lauren plays Kelly in the hit show.

It features a group of teenagers doing community service (in fetching orange jumpsuits) who discover they have super powers after being struck by lightning.
